Using a Spiral Slicer Effectively

Using a spiral slicer is extremely fun. You will be amazed by how fast and effortlessly you will be able to cut your produce. Simply place the item between the blades and start turning while your slicer does all the work. Even all of the extra trimmings fall into an easy-to-clean container.

If you have never used a slicer before and are dying to try a few raw recipes that you have come across, we have a treat for you.

The following tips will ensure you can use your slicer effectively:

  • Tough vegetables that are curved, such as some cucumbers, are not ideal to cut. Choose straighter pieces when cutting carrots or cucumbers.
  • Clean the slicer after every use and dry the blade thoroughly to ensure it remains sharp.
  • Apply constant pressure when cutting to ease the cutting process.

A great tip that I have learned after years of cooking is that the leftover pieces are terrific for stews and soups. Carrots, for instance, leave perfectly trimmed pieces that can be used rather than discarded. If you are having a tough time slicing and you feel that you are applying too much pressure, remove the produce and start over. All too often we have broken our slicers by trying to force a cut to happen.

The 3 Best Spiral Slicers Tested by Us

Now that we have discussed a few tips to help you use your slicer effectively, it is time to examine our top picks for the best slicer on the market. These models have all been tested by us and receive our seal of approval.

1. Spiralizer Tri-blade Vegetable Slicer

Spiralizer Tri-blade Vegetable Slicer

Three ultra-sharp blades accompany the Spiralizer Tri-blade that make this model one of our top 3 picks. This awesome looking slicer has increased durability, which ensures that it can withstand cutting even the toughest vegetables with ease.

As the manufacturer states, we were even able to make vegetable pasta noodles in less than 1 minute. Now that is fast cutting even for us!

  • Superior cutting
  • Heavy enough to not topple over
  • BPA-free
  • 3 stainless steel blades
  • Lifetime warranty
  • Easy to clean and assemble
  • Has plenty of attachments

  • The suction cups are weak
  • A lot of pressure needs to be applied when cutting

The tri-blade comes with 3 blades that we really enjoyed using. There is a small noodle, slicer and large noodle blade included. We were able to make zucchini pasta or cut up carrots for a stew with ease. There is not much difference with this model than any other when it comes to how you use the spiral slicer.

The suction cups provided were all but worthless and do not work well. We tried cutting larger items, such as beets, but it was a difficult task that required immense pressure.

The Tri-blade was able to slice through just about any vegetable we attempted to slice and did so with relative ease.

2. Paderno World Cuisine A4982799 Tri-Blade

Paderno World Cuisine A4982799 Tri-Blade Vegetable Spiral Slicer

The Paderno World Cuisine A4982799 has actually sat in my home for the past year and has been used for everything from curly fries to veggie pasta. We know from experience that this model is packed with great features, but there is one con that does make me wish there was an easier way to use this slicer.

  • 3 Cutting blades
  • Heavy and sturdy
  • 1-year warranty
  • BPA-free
  • Storage for extra blades

  • Cleaning is difficult

At my house, we really like the Paderno, but we hate cleaning this model. Particles get stuck between the blades or on the grip and are very difficult to get loose. Aside from this, there is a lot to like about the Paderno.

Apart from their look, the Paderno and Spiralizer are almost exact duplicates of each other. The blades can cut thick or thin strands, or straight cuts. While we test every product within this review, this model has been in our home for far longer than any other models so we have tested it with every food imaginable.

The one gripe that I have had when using the Paderno is that when cutting fries, the thickness was simply too thin to actually get a great “French fry” taste. However, everything else we have tried has been cut to perfection.

The added storage tray and the variety of slicers are more than enough for our needs and will work for anyone trying to reduce their food prep time dramatically.

3. GEFU Spirelli Spiral Slicer

GEFU Spirelli Spiral Slicer

The GEFU is unlike any slicer we have ever tested before. From the moment you see this slicer, you will be intrigued by how it actually works and operates. This brand has a lot of promise and offers a unique perspective to slicers that we have not seen before.

Let’s take a look at how this awesome slicer is able to compare to the others on our list.

  • Available in silver, green, blue, yellow, red and pink
  • Stainless steel
  • Very sturdy
  • Finger hard for safety
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Creates julienne strips

  • No instructions
  • There is a slight learning curve

The GEFU is great once you know how to use it. This requires you to put one end on the counter and to feed in your vegetables yourself. Slowly rotate the vegetables by hand once they touch the blade and let the perfectly sliced vegetable process begin.

Aesthetically, this model beats out all of the others we tested, and the strips are great too. This model matches the durability of the other two and there is even a safety feature for your fingers.

Cleaning is so easy that we jumped for joy. You simply place this slicer in the dishwasher and that is that. The lack of instructions bring about the biggest issue as cutting is a little different than other models. However, we have read that instruction manuals are now being included, but we do not have one personally to comment on this.

If you’re looking for a slicer that works great, looks great, but takes a bit of getting used to, the GEFU is the spiral slicer for you.

The slicers we have listed have all been tested by us and meet our requirements. If you want to start cutting faster and more efficiently than ever before, any of the mentioned slicers will work perfectly in your kitchen.
